Location and Area

Karachchi divisional secretariat division is situated in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka,comes under the Kilinochchi district. It covers an extent of land area of approximately 410. 96 square km and inland water way of 18.40 square Km. The average density of population is being 190 persons per Sq.km. Karachchi division is the largest division of Kilinochchi district.

Climate

Normally Karachchi Division falls under dry zone. Peak rainfall is during the October to December. The period called as North East Monsoon season provides scattered rain during April to May. The average temperature during the year fluctuates between 25⁰ C and 30⁰ C.

Soil and Natural Resources

The Soil of the Karachchi Division is fertile and having enough minerals for the better growth of any kind of crops. Red yellow latasol soil types are found in southern part of Karachchi areas. Solodised Solenet and Regosols soil are found in middle of Northern (coastal areas). Alluvial soil types are in central areas.
